What a great weekend we had!  We attended Dan's graduation on Saturday.  He was class treasurer and that entitled us to reserved seats.  Emily, Jeff, Anna and Dan's girlfriend Beth joined us.  We had a party at Dan's house after.  The boys rented a tent, tables and chairs.  We had a cookout for all the parents, grandparents and siblings that came.  One of the guys put together a very entertaining slideshow, too.   Then there were "party games" of the college sort!

Tim and I met with the oncologist, Dr. Kathy Albain, today.  She has been wonderful to us.  We are now faced with two choices for chemo options. (TCH or AC/TH)  We will make our decision soon.  You can help by praying for guidance as we evaluate each treatment.

I continue to feel great.  My arm feels a little weird with some numbness and tightening.  I stretch often and I have almost full range of motion.  The incisions are healing well.  I still get to be drained every week.  What fun!!

Thanks for taking the time to read these entries.  You can always email or call if you have a specific question.

Have a happy week!
Karen

  1. Mom,

It sure was a great weekend! It was awesome to have you and dad in Indy, and I must say you were a pretty great 'tippy cup' player. I know you will make the right decision on which type of treatment to pick, you have so many medical people on your side to help you with that. Since you are stretching often to keep up the range of motion in your arm, I think you should just do the monster mash dance in place of your typical stretches to spice up your routine a little bit :)

    Love, Emily

  2. k,

we all know you weren't the best 'tippy cup' player at this function. And it DEFINITELY wasn't any Becker there either, judging by the derogatory comments eveyone was making towards us as we lost games for our team and sucked. It was your husband, T, or as the guys called him "THE NATURAL." You know youre always in my prayers and were all running this race together! No one is running ahead and no one is falling behind, we WILL do this together as a team until we reach the finish line.

    Love u much K,

  4. Karen, tried to send you an e-mail a week or so ago but it was undeliverable. Must have the wrong adress - Halter318. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Gary and I have a special appreciation for what you're going through, but 36 years later, he's here to tell the story. We'll keep in touch.

  5. Hi Karen,
In the years 1970-1974, I can't even begin to count how many conversations the 10 of us had about all of our plans for our futures. We never included any health issues, but what I do know is that God made us strong and He wants us well. My prayers will continue for that for you, as I will look forward to continual good reports from you. My prayers will also be for you to know and to feel God's peace. I love you and I love the bond that the 10 of us have with one another. We are always here for each other and always will be.
    Love,
    DeeDee

  6. Hi Karen,
Beata told me about what you've been going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer just over a year ago. It's been a long year, but all the support I had from family and friends really helped. I believe having so many people praying for me helped my treatments go better. I'm feeling fine now and pretty much back to normal.
Because I had 2 lumps in my right breast I had a masectomy. I lymph node was involved, too. I went through 4 months of AC/T chemo. It was not fun, but I didn't experience any horrible side effects. Mostly I was more tired than usual, and food tasted terrible. I only missed 4 days of teaching and those were the days I had treatments. I hope things go as well for you as they did for me. I was able to stop wearing my wig about 4 1/2 months after chemo ended.
If you ever want to talk to someone who knows what you're going through e-mail, cgsaiki@sbcglobal.net, or call me, 773-858-2081.
    Love,
    Cheryl Tietjen Saiki

  7. OK, I have no idea why I couldn't do this before, but I think I can now.

Karen, We are praying for you. Glad you had a good weekend. It sounds like you and Jacki will both be at Loyola for treatments. Stay strong and positive. You have lots of people praying for you.
    Love, Jamie

  8. Ta Daa! I got on the blog. Great talking to you tonight as always. You will be fine. You are hearty Bavarian girl. Seriously, no one has the support that I know of like you. We will all help you carry the load whatever it entails. Don't be afraid. You can do it and all of us know that you can. XXOO Elam
